Wisdom Teeth Problems

Wisdom-Teeth-Problems.pngWisdom teeth can cause problems if they break through the gums partially or if the jaw is not large enough to allow them to grow properly. A dentist will be able to perform an X-Ray and determine if you need to remove your wisdom teeth or they can grow properly.

Problems with wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth usually develop between the age of 17 and 25 and sometimes later - hence the name “wisdom tooth”. While some individuals will not experience problems with them, other will cause discomfort and even other problems while they erupt.

Wisdom teeth are located at the very back of the mouth and sometimes there will be no more room for them to grow out properly. Here are common problems caused by wisdom teeth:
- they don’t come out properly: they are impacted;
- they grow at the wrong angle;
- they grow having cavities;
- they can cause gum problems: because the area is hard to reach and clean.

Symptoms indicating that your wisdom teeth cause problems

Wisdom teeth that grow in the right position will typically not cause more than a soreness of the gums that cover them. With proper dental hygiene the patient can take care of the tooth and prevent bacteria from forming under the gum that covers the tooth. The soreness will most likely be only temporary, until the tooth has fully erupted.

Impacted wisdom teeth can present the following symptoms:
- pain near the impacted tooth;
- pain or irritation of the cheek and tongue;
- bad breath and unpleasant taste in the mouth;
- swelling and infection in the flap of gum tissue that covers a partially erupted tooth;
- tooth decay if the tooth is harder to reach and cannot be cleaned properly.

If you experience any of these problems, a dentist can help remove the impacted wisdom tooth. Dental surgery will be needed for this procedure and one of our dentists in Bucharest will be able to explain the use of anesthesia and the treatment care necessary after the removal.

You can contact our dental clinic if you have questions about other dental treatments.
