What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a revolutionary dental aligner that is made out of hard plastic that resembles a thin mouthguard. It is transparent and your natural teeth will show through it. Before you use this aligner, a dentist must make sure that it fits onto your teeth. This is important for the aligning process to work.
These transparent trays are more comfortable than traditional braces
. They are created out of a special plastic and this material does not damage the gums of irritate your mouth.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign works by putting pressure onto the teeth. After an initial consult, the dentist can determine your needs and provide you with several such trays. Each is worn for approximately two weeks until the teeth shift in the desired position. During this period you will have to check-in with your dentist from time to time to make sure that the straightening process is going on accordingly.
Invisalign can be used for the following dental problems:
- crooked teeth;
- protruding teeth;
- open bites or overbites;
- crossbites and underbites.
These special aligners are not painful, however, patients can experience some discomfort and additional pressure on their teeth during the first few days.
In some cases patients may require more complex orthodontic treatments
and the dentist can decide to perform surgery or reccomend traditional braces
for a short period of time before moving to the Invisalign system
